We booked the hotel very last minute and paid $180/night for a suite that had a full kitchen and hot tub. There is a huge variety of hotels to pick from along the routes in basically every price point. We did usually leave the festival 30m before closing to beat the crowd but not sure if that actually mattered. There was always a bus waiting to pick up or came within 5 minutes of waiting. There were a ton of people going the same way so it's very safe. Walk like a block down the road to where the buses pick up and get in line for your particular bus routes. Leaving the festival by bus was a breeze. We just planned to get on the bus about 30 minutes before we wanted to be at EDC and that worked.
