![]() ![]() The reason people from sc2 continue playing here is because of money, demu said it’s too hard to compete in sc2. Strategies are plenty for each race, units are vast different and you can create your own playstyle no matter what civ you choose. Is sc2 every little skirmish is dynamic and interesting, involves precision. Without a huge number of casuals, you cannot have a huge tournaments!Ī very simple theory that almost all scientists agree with. ![]() It is mostly the casuals watching the tourneys, not the esports themselves! It is like Olympic champions don’t watch themselves in a stadium or on a TV, they perform and casuals just watch them. People love to play against each other, but many just don’t play in tournaments. Just by enjoying the game, players get rewarded. Lots of its events offer giveaway items that can be sold or used in the game that offer various effects and different skins etc. Mostly, casuals play DOTA2, as it can run on potato PC and is free. The difference between casual and esport players are players play the game to enjoy and win (casuals) or to play the game and win a prize (esports).Īfter a few years, DOTA2 was announced to have its independent game mode as a full game. Soon, it had players from CS pro teams, then the game mode became a true esports game. They repeatedly played it against each other. It was made to entertain players by creating an almost entirely different way of playing the game. Warcraft is a notable example, dota was created as a game mode for casual players. There was literally no player drop on AoE2’s community so I’d assume the fast majority just didn’t like it from the very beginning. When it comes to AoE2 players (probably second largest game for AoE4 to gain players) I have no idea what the reasons were to not switch to AoE4. If I remember correctly Lucifron has also said that he didn’t play that much AoE4 in 2022 since the meta was rather defensive. However, I have a hard time imaging that many SC2 players would be satisfied with AoE4 because it is just way too slow and has such powerful defensive structures. You can even see a huge player drop on the SC2 ladder when AoE4 was released. When AoE4 launched SC2 was the game with the biggest potential for AoE4 to gain players. mega random could have been played with current settings and ranked game mode with a lil bit faster pace, maybe more micro involved. Maybe they should have implemented a casual and competitve game mode in the first place to satisfy both parts of the community. ![]() However, patching is mainly focused on Esports. For casuals I’d say there’s not enough content available and for Esports with lack of micro the skill ceiling feels flat. To me it seems like AoE4 doesn’t know exactly what it wants to be. ![]()
